The product

PowerProvider is an innovative electrical load-limiter that can provide substantial capital savings and running cost benefits for companies supplying consumers who have low levels of electricity consumption.

PowerProvider establishes a limited current connection and can be used without an electricity meter. The consumer pays a monthly fee determined by the current rating of the PowerProvider selected. The advantages are:

PowerProvider is a robust, auto-resetting, electronic circuit breaker. It is fully weatherproof and designed for mounting on a distribution or service pole to minimise problems with tampering and to make bypassing easy to detect.

The higher-current-rated PowerProviders can be used in conjunction with an electricity meter to enable billing of energy usage whilst limiting peak demand and reducing fraud.

Features

Operation

PowerProvider will deliver a continuous current of up to 1.05 times the rated current without tripping, whatever the ambient temperature. In the event that the current exceeds 1.1 times the rated current, PowerProvider disconnects the load, after a time delay that depends on the magnitude of the overload. PowerProvider automatically reconnects the load after fifteen seconds.

Device manufacture

PowerProvider is a hybrid module consisting of a ceramic circuit substrate printed and fired with thick-film resistors and surface mounted with electronic components. Input and output cables are connected to the substrate and the module is fully sealed in a high-grade, UV-stable encapsulant. An aluminium chassis forms a robust housing, incorporating slots for strapping the device to the pole.
